The Congregation Council has “general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation, and in particular, it’s worship life – to the end that everything be done in accordance with the Word of God and the faith and practice of the ELCA.”

The Congregation Council of Gethsemane serves as our spiritual leaders. They are responsible for setting church policy and helping to determine the vision of the church. They are available to answer your questions, to hear your concerns or to visit with you. Please seek out a Council member if you would like to learn more about Gethsemane. The congregation elects the Church Council at the Annual Meeting in January each year. • Mike Shaffer

I reside in Manchester with my wife of 35 years Diane, children Kate and Erik, and our goofy yellow lab Odin. Diane and I both graduated from Oswego State in NY where we met. After working and living in a number of places during our first 11 years together (Turkey twice, Bangor ME; Utica, NY); we relocated to New Hampshire and joined Gethsemane in 1996. I work for BAE Systems as a Supplier Development Engineer currently sitting at the Hudson, NH facility.

As many of you already know I serve as an Assisting Minister and also sing in the choir. This is my 2nd time serving on the council, as I previously served from 1999 to 2005. My hobbies include hiking and canoeing, and home improvement projects which seems to be never ending.

I look forward to serving on the council for the congregation in this time of transition.
